Casters 101: Training Manual

Introduction to Casters

To be knowledgeable in Casters, it is imperative that you understand the terminology, jargon or names of completed casters, their parts, and how they work together, as well as the difference between a complete caster, a wheel and a complete wheel. Casters are a combination of the caster yoke, a complete wheel; including the bearings, an axle and any other optional parts desired (i.e.; brakes, thread guards, etc). A wheel is just a wheel unless it is incorporated with a caster yoke and axle. A caster yoke is not considered a caster unless it has a wheel assembled into it and would be called just a caster yoke. In the caster industry, both Wholesalers and distributors alike stock "parts" meaning; all the unassembled parts that make up completed casters. Unassembled parts are stocked to provide the greatest range of potential caster combinations while limiting inventory. One caster yoke may have 10-20 wheel types, 1-10 bearing types and many other optional parts available in making up a completed caster. In this training manual we will go over each part, type of casters, wheels and options , as well as their advantages and characteristics.
